Clinical Coordinator: Eshowe/ Mbongolwane

02 March 2012 MSF has been providing TB/HIV services in South Africa since 1999 (Khayelitsha project) and in Lesotho since 2006. MSF teams have also been providing medical and humanitarian assistance for Zimbabweans and other vulnerable migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers in Musina and inner-city Johannesburg since 2007. In 2011, MSF has opened an ambitious ‘TB and HIV incidence reduction ’project in Eshowe township and Mbongolwane health service area in KwaZulu Natal.
Based in Mbongolwane, KwaZulu-Natal Province, The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of the clinical component of the project. S/he will directly manage three mobile teams, supporting nurse-led integrated treatment of HIV and TB in the clinics and mobile points of the project area, as well as a laboratory component (point-of-care CD4 at clinic level). She/ He will be responsible for facilitating medical trainings for both MSF and DoH staff.
Job requirements:
- MBChB from a recognised university
- Current registration with HPCSA
- Strong clinical skills in HIV and TB care
- Extensive clinical experience in HIV and TB in Sub-Saharan Africa in both the public sector and NGO setting
- Management experience
- Experience of working and constructively participating within a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work independently, proactively identifying and addressing issues
- Organised and flexible approach to managing and prioritising multiple concurrent activities in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
- Proven track record in training and coaching health staff
- Operational research experience an added advantage
- Detailed knowledge of the project areas an added advantage
- Good knowledge of common office software (Microsoft Office)
- Fluent in English; isiZulu an added advantage
- Community involvement and personal experience showing a willingness to adhere to the humanitarian principle of Médecins Sans Frontières.
- South African citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit

Responsibilities:
- To supervise the implementation, and report the crogress of the clinical component of the project
- Provide clinical input to medical meeting at hospital level
- Supervise, evaluate, coach, train and support all clinical staff
- Ensure quality of care in respect of national and MSF guidelines
- Analyse difficulties encountered and make recommendations in response to these
- Maintain very close collaboration with the Community and the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) components of the project
- Propose and implement novel strategies to increase HIV and TB diagnosis and treatment, improve linkages to care, decrease loss to follow-up at every level of care
- Conduct clinical ward rounds in hospital once a week
