Clinical Mentor Medical Doctor

JOB SUMMARY
To implement and support the clinical mentorship programme with the aim to foster ongoing professional development to yield sustainable high-quality clinical care outcomes in Khayelitsha health facilities.   To teach and mentor doctors and nurses with limited prior experience with HIV, TB (tuberculosis) and STIs (sexually transmitted infections) to a level of safety and proficiency in managing these conditions.  To enhance quality of care among experienced staff.
 
BENEFICIARIES (Internal an External)
The programme will support ongoing clinical and technical support for doctors and nurses working in Khayelitsha clinics.
Job requirements: 
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Theoretical teaching of the relevant theory which is not covered in other course material
  • Thorough knowledge and the preparation of teaching materials inclusive of  resources used in the region
  • Hands-on oversight and teaching in diagnosis and management of all aspects of HIV and TB as present in routine consultations
  • Documentation of the teaching process and clinical evaluation of the mentee during the mentoring process
  • Evaluation of the mentee at the end of the mentoring period
  • Appropriate supervision of mentee that allows autonomous decision making along with appropriate teaching and training
  • Attendance at relevant clinical meeting is required
  • Theoretical and practical teaching on paediatric HIV care and management 
  • Providing of clinical support for the management of HIV paediatric patients
  • To enhance previous HIV paediatric experience through hands on mentoring support
  • To improve the link between HIV/TB services and immunization, TOP, Chronic illness, PAP smear, ANC
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skills)
  • A qualified medical doctor with post-graduate qualification in HIV or infectious disease management
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • At least two years experience in managing HIV/TB in a lower socio-economic context
  • Proven experience in and knowledge of clinical teaching and/or mentoring 
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer literacy in MS Packages
  • Training experience a plus
