In December 2009 Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) took the difficult decision to close the last of its programmes in Turkmenistan. MSF was present in the country for more than ten years and thus had a unique opportunity to witness the challenges facing the healthcare system but also felt it had reached the limit of what could be achieved with the project under the given circumstances. Lastly, MSF supported the paediatric and reproductive health departments of the district hospital in Magdanly, Eastern Turkmenistan.
