VUKANI: HIV patients must plan for holiday

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) are reminding HIV patients travelling to visit family in the Eastern Cape to ensure they have sufficient supplies of their anti-retroviral medication (ARVs)... Patients can end up staying longer at home due to family demands, and run out of their medication... This isn't helped by the fact that many patients forget to take their medical records, so are unable to visit a local clinic and get fresh supplies of ARVs in the Eastern Cape... Stopping ARVs is problematic, as patients leave themselves open to developing resistance to their ARVs, thus requiring more costly second line drugs, the MSF said.
