Pledge Your Birthday

Pledge your birthday to MSF by mobilising your friends, family, or colleagues to dedicate their gifts to MSF.

My Birthday Without Borders

A birthday pledge is a unique way to celebrate your birthday by allowing your friends and family to make a life-saving donation to MSF in lieu of buying you a gift. Find out how you can set up your birthday fundraiser with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can set up your birthday pledge by either creating a fundraising page on GivenGain – where you can manage your campaign yourself, or alternatively contact our Donor Care teams to help assist you in your campaign.

Once you have registered your birthday pledge on the GivenGain website you can start sharing your birthday campaign page with your supporters via social media.

Setting a target for your campaign really helps coordinate how much you would like to raise for MSF. Think about how many people in your social circles you could appeal to and what amount you would request from them to help you set a realistic target for your birthday fundraiser.

This is dependent on your fundraising target, but as an indication: R150 can vaccinate roughly 50 children against measles. R600 can provide simple delivery kits to midwives to stop labour complications from becoming life-threatening.

The whole idea of pledging your birthday is to spread your campaign page with as many of your supporters as possible. Imagine if just 10 of your friends contributed R100 each. That’s already R 1,000. You could also host your campaign with colleagues at work, friends at school, or within your family. The more you can spread your campaign within your social circles, the more likely you are to reach and even surpass your fundraising goals.

Depending on your campaign targets or duration on the GivenGain fundraising page, you can define for how long you would like to keep your campaign open for.

MSF fundraising teams have a range of fundraising materials that you can use in your birthday fundraiser or event. Contact Tshidi Mapeka to find out more about these materials.
