"Drug stockouts" - two words that have become all too familiar to patients requiring treatment for various diseases and HIV/AIDS... While the Department of Health recently attributed the shortage of drugs to a global problem, according to a second annual report on stockouts by advocacy organisations the problems are at local and provincial level... Hearing the devastating words "sorry, it's out of stock" has made many patients and rural clinicians feel helpless and angry, according to Dr Karl le Roux of the Rural Doctors Association of Southern Africa (Rudasa).
