A young woman who lost her hearing allegedly from taking pills for drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), is attending a conference in Paris where a report which puts the spotlight on the scourge in South Africa has been released... 

Phumeza Tisile, 23, was a university student when she was diagnosed with XDR-TB three years ago... She could not afford treatment as a single tablet for XDRTB costs R621 and patients are required to take one tablet a day for 24 months... 

Tisile recently became the first XDR-TB patient to be cured through the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) programme in South Africa, but it appears her hearing ability had been lost from previous cheaper and ineffective treatments.
