She survived a harrowing two-year battle with extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) and became the first patient to be cured of the disease using a highstrength antibiotic. And next week, at the annual World Health Assembly in Geneva, she will represent the thousands of patients who have not survived TB and those still on the long journey to recovery... Khayelitsha, Cape Town, resident and TB activist Phumeza Tisile, 23, will present a petition with 33 000 signatures, urging the world's health leaders to develop better drug treatment and diagnostics needed by thousands of drug-resistant TB patients.
