Infographics: Fix the patent laws

South Africa has paid too much for its medicines for years – NOW is the time for change!

Under our current patent law system, South Africa is blindly handing out patents which benefits pharmaceutical companies, not patients. As a result, we pay high prices for life-saving and everyday medicines.

The good news is that South Africa is reforming its intellectual property system and MSF, TAC and SECTION27 have been lobbying to ensure people’s access to affordable drugs and quality healthcare is not subverted in the process.

On 17 October 2013 – on the final day for public comment on the Department of Trade and Industry’s “Draft National Policy on Intellectual Property, 2013” – MSF, TAC  and SECTION27, along with hundreds of activists, are hand-delivering our submission in Pretoria.
