ABOUT MSF
Doctors without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation committed to two objectives: providing medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, natural and man-made disasters; and speaking out about the plight of the populations assisted. MSF SA’s fundraising department is responsible for raising private funding, predominantly from individuals via mass marketing campaigns or one-to-one strategies, but also from Corporates, Trusts and Foundations, to support our humanitarian mission and our activities in the Southern African region.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and present actionable insights, strategic recommendations and business intelligence from analytical output to support strategic decisions on investments.
- Participate in the fundraising income and investment forecasting process by providing data analysis and process recommendations.
- Develop a comprehensive annual budget system and planning (including provision of the calculation bases).
- Develop strategic segmentation proposals and continuous optimisation based on the analysis
- Participate in benchmark studies.
- Participate in the strategic evaluation, post-processing and action derivation of benchmark results.
- Develop and maintain an evolving technology stack (integration, data warehousing, report building, predictive analysis) to assist in long-term strategy and planning.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Establish fundraising metrics (KPIs) for the different fundraising acquisition and cultivation channels and provide insight/recommendations on comparative fundraising results from previous years and/or from the MSF movement or the SA market.
- Responsible for building, continuously developing and maintaining a reporting system (reports and dashboards) for the fundraising department and various campaigns (Acquisition, Retention, digital and one-to-one program).
- Assist and train campaign managers in KPI and campaign analysis, as well as report use.
- Work with the international Data Analyst and the BI tool to forecast the annual revenue.
- Make targeted and actual reconciliation of revenue and expenditure during the review cycle (6M, 12M)
- Identify causes for actual and forecast deviations on KPIs and give advice regarding the need for action.
- Illustrate data graphically and translate complex findings into written text, reports and visual presentations
- Analyse MSF Southern Africa data and benchmark against the market and/or other MSF offices.
Donor behaviour:
- Develop a strategic analysis of different donor segments/portfolios and corresponding recommendations for action
- Develop and create the donor profile analysis with external service providers
- Create a statistical model that forecasts cancellation rates and trends, including lifetime value. Share results with channel/ campaign owners.
- Analyse key drivers of cancellations and recommend changes to the donor experience/journey.
- Provide data-driven recommendations on the donor journey through analysis of revenue-generating and retention activities.
- Assist in rating donors and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity to donate, and consult with the fundraising team on cultivation and solicitation strategies during pipeline management sessions.
Data, processes and systems:
- Develop the BI structure of MSF Southern Africa Fundraising within the technology stack
- Develop BI tools/technology stack to support fundraising decisions
- Build data model for use in data visualisation
- Conduct modelling and mining data with high accuracy and applicability to answer key business needs (with service provider)
- Identify opportunities to optimise data processing (incl. campaign management and marketing automations), automation and interpretation with Database Manager.
- Creation/optimisation of guidelines for data analysis/controlling.
- Implement robust methodologies with checks to ensure high data quality
- Support Database Manager to develop proper coding system to allow proper results analyses
- Recommend new methods and procedures to the internal clients
- Identify opportunities for improvement of the MSF database to improve the quality of reports and analyses
- Be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of data and reports to meet high-quality standards
- Work with the Database coordinator and external vendors to scope out and implement new reports and tools as needed
- Pull data from databases for own use or vendors use
Other:
- Manage business intelligence vendors and be the focal point between the team and all the BI vendors.
- Manage the demands appropriately, prioritising properly and respecting the deadlines.
- Propose, manage or support any BI-related projects
- Actively participate in the international data analysis working group
- Support the Fundraising and Finance Department during annual audits
Qualifications/job requirements
Education and experience
- A college or university degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related fields
- 5+ years working in statistics or business data analysis
- Demonstrate proficiency with BI and stats tools and systems
- Demonstrate proficiency with data modelling and segmentation
- Demonstrate proficiency with reports and dashboards development
- Must possess knowledge of direct marketing and statistical principles as well as data management software

Salary Details:
- Basic Salary: R48 209.76
- 10% additional pension allowance
- 13th Cheque - November (Pro-rata)
