Floods Have Broken Access to Healthcare in Mozambique
When Floods Destroy Healthcare, Lives Are Put at Risk
msf.org.zaFollowing severe flooding that began in late December 2025, nearly one million people in central and southern Mozambique have been left without reliable access to healthcare and safe water.
These floods are not isolated events; they are part of a growing pattern, as extreme weather like floods and cyclones become more frequent and more destructive across the region.
With every disaster, already fragile health systems are pushed closer to collapse, leaving vulnerable communities with fewer options for care and making urgent support more critical than ever.
Getting medical help is no longer guaranteed
msf.org.zaWithout functioning healthcare systems, disease spreads rapidly — turning already vulnerable communities into hotspots for deadly outbreaks.
Cholera cases have surpassed 7,200 and the situation has been declared an epidemic, while malaria continues to surge in the aftermath of flooding. With water sources contaminated, the risk of infection rises sharply, especially for children and the elderly.
These diseases are preventable and treatable but without access to timely medical care, they can quickly become fatal.
You can help bring care back.
