We are shocked and saddened by the death of our colleague in Zamfara province

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the death of our colleague Mohammad Hassan, a 37-year-old nurse who was working in our project in Shinkafi, Zamfara province in northwest Nigeria. 

Hassan was killed on October 2 when armed individuals opened fire on the public vehicle he was travelling in. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this tragic time. We are supporting them in these difficult circumstances. 

Mohammad’s tragic death is an example of the rising violence in northwest Nigeria that profoundly affects people's lives and has driven thousands from their homes. 

We condemn the attack and call for the respect of civilians and humanitarian workers.
