Scaling up diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis in Khayelitsha

Since 2007, in response to the growing epidemic of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in Khayelitsha, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the City of Cape Town and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape are carrying out a pilot project to provide treatment to DR-TB patients at the primary care level.

Khayelitsha is a township with one of the highest burdens of HIV infection and tuberculosis across South Africa and globally.
