South Sudan Midwife Jennie Nordensvend attends to a newborn child in the MSF hospital maternity ward in Agok. Approximately three to four deliveries take place every day in the ward. Unfortunately, when the fighting intensifies in South Sudan, many mothers experience severe complications during labour or even stillbirths. If the MSF hospital would not be there, Agok town has few other resources that could assist women in labour with complications. The MSF hospital does have a surgical ward which allows for emergency caesarean sections if the need arises. The day this picture was taken, two mothers experienced stillbirths.

THREE South African women have embodied the spirit of Ubuntu as they dedicate their lives to taking care of the sick and destitute in African countries... With Africa Day being celebrated on Wednesday under the theme "Building a better Africa and a better world", the nurses hope their contribution helps improve the lives of the Africans they have helped...
