South Sudan's hidden crisis

South Sudan's most violent state - Jonglei has been the epicentre of violence in South Sudan in the past 18 months.

Over the period covered by this report, from January 2011 to September 2012, just under half of reported ‘conflict incidents‘ and over half of reported ‘conflict-related’ deaths and displacements in South Sudan had taken place in Jonglei.

Whilst violence has continued throughout the rainy season, the approaching dry season makes movement throughout the state possible again and is likely to bring with it renewed insecurity.
