2,000 prisoners are living in Chichiri prison, Blantyre, Malawi despite it being built to hold just 800. Crowding and lack of hygiene are factors contributing to the spread of infectious diseases, in particular HIV, hepatitis and TB. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has worked in the prison since mid-2014, and has witnessed inhumane, overcrowded conditions and malnutrition amongst prisoners.
