Mali has faced a political and security crisis since 2012 which has had a devastating impact on the humanitarian situation of people living in the conflict areas. Sadly the violence has been intensifying in the central region for over a year and is seriously affecting the civilian population.
Voices from the Camps - Elvira Modesero
Elvira Modesero is a Burundian nurse who came to South Africa in 2004, after fleeing ongoing civil conflict in Burundi. She studied nursing at the University of KwaZulu Natal, and currently works at St Mary’s missionary hospital, Pinetown, Mariannhill.
During March and April 2015 violent xenophobic attacks spread across South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal province, leaving seven people dead, several injured and more than 7,000 foreign nationals displaced.
