Since early Monday morning, the trauma centre in Kunduz hospital has received 102 wounded patients. Guilhem Molinie, MSF Country Representative in Afghanistan gives an update on the situation.
“MSF’s medical team in Kunduz, in Afghanistan, is urgently treating dozens of wounded after heavy fighting in the city. Since early Monday morning, the trauma centre has received 102 wounded patients and is now at full capacity. Thirty-six patients arrived in critical condition, with severe abdominal and head injuries.
"Our surgeons have been working non-stop to treat patients with gunshot wounds. We have added 18 extra beds to bring the total bed capacity to 110 in order to cope with the unprecedented level of admissions. MSF’s hospital is the only facility of its kind in the whole north-eastern region of Afghanistan providing free high-level life- and limb-saving trauma care.
"Our doctors treat all people according to their medical needs and do not make distinctions based on a patient’s race, ethnicity, religious beliefs or political affiliation."
