International Activity Report 2023

Foreword

In 2023, as devastating natural disasters and brutal wars once again shook the world, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) worked to support people in need of medical care and basic services.

Alongside our regular activities, we launched emergency responses to powerful earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria, Morocco, and Afghanistan. We also assisted communities caught up in wars in Sudan and Palestine and other conflicts around the world.

We face many challenges in delivering this assistance, not only in gaining access to patients but also in ensuring the safety of our staff in insecure situations.

2023 in review

Conflict was a major driver of human suffering and vulnerability in the year 2023, causing many thousands of deaths worldwide and displacing record numbers of people. As in previous years, assisting communities affected by violence was a significant component of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) programmes. We also responded to disasters and disease outbreaks and worked to improve healthcare for refugees, migrants, and other marginalised people.
