Andrew Mews
Andrew Mews

Since his first assignment with MSF in Zimbabwe in 2005, Andrew has spent over fourteen of the last seventeen years working in operations, all in sub-Saharan Africa. Following multiple assignments in Zimbabwe, Chad and the Central African Republic, Andrew became a Head of Mission for MSF in 2011, leading assignments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa & Lesotho and Nigeria.  As part of his work, he has represented MSF’s positioning on the impact of counter-terror legislation on humanitarian action to various international bodies, including the Under-Secretary-General of the UN.  Andrew became the Executive Director of MSF Southern Africa in 2020, bringing his operational experience to the Section, and supporting the integration of the Regional Medical-Operational teams into the Johannesburg office.

As the Receptionist, I help with walk-ins, coordinate various needs, greet visitors, help them navigate through the office, and supply staff with stationery. I handle phone duties and provide efficient, organized, and friendly support.

As the IT Officer, I facilitate the procurement of IT-related equipment for the office and ensure effective coordination of help desk functions. 
Provide support to the IT Manager in training staff on automating office applications, and assist in performing systems administration functions whenever needed.  Assist in Developing manuals and provide end-user training on new technologies and tools. Be part of the Knowledge Information Management to ensure knowledge building and sharing within MSF.

My role entails coordinating and accelerating the implementation of sustainable information and knowledge management best practices, including ethical and compliance standards relating to privacy and data protection within the humanitarian context, while also providing administrative support.

An Office Assistant's responsibility is to maintain all facilities by keeping the company premises clean and well organised.

The Office Manager function works closely with every department and unit within the MSF SA office to provide services needed to complete their tasks. The position collaborates on a strategic and functional level with MSFSA's HR and Finance department.

Leads the DSR Unit and works with the DEI leads from different Operational Centres in MSF Movement. My responsibilities include the successful delivery of the game-changers. Provide strategic guidance to ensure the initiative’s success. Ensure the initiative meets its objectives by championing its development, uptake, evaluation, support and scaling across MSF. Ensure content produced includes references from various geopolitical and sociocultural contexts to remain relevant for a wide range of interlocutors

I am responsible for providing administrative, communication and logistical support for the DSR team and leadership incubator, as well as other related events.

The main purpose of the role is to identify potential leaders amongst Southern African recruited staff from the MSF SA Section, Southern Africa Projects and International Field Worker pool from the region. To manage the careers of these selected participants and invest in their growth to produce quality leaders by seeking out channels for global opportunities, enabling these Future Leaders to take up senior positions across the MSF Movement.
